Ideals

Akita University Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine contributes to its immediate society and to the world by educating medical doctors, medical investigators and co-medical staff capable of both pursuing a top-level research in medicine, medical care and life sciences, and bettering the health and welfare of all people of the earth.

Goals of the Doctoral Course in Medicine

1. Education Goals

Our educational goals for the doctoral course are to intensively train investigators and medical professionals, ensuring that they acquire the extensive knowledge and research skills required for engaging in top-level medical research and care, and that they are more than able to contribute to the global development of medical science and practice by working internationally as leaders in their field.

2. Academic Research Goals

The goals of our academic research at this level are to build a center of excellence in medicine, medical care, and life science research that can contribute in many way to the health and welfare of all people of the world, and also to support and expand social medicine and health care sciences which will contribute to solving complicated social problems surrounding medicine and related sciences today.

Goals of the Master’s Course in Medical Sciences

1. Education Goals

The educational goals of the master’s course are to produce investigators possessing extensive knowledge in medical sciences, and who are able to report the outcomes of their research to the entire world.

2. Academic Research Goals

The goals of our academic research at the master’s level are to promote both medical sciences and health care sciences that serve to contribute to rectifying interdiciplinary medical problems of our society for the development of the health and welfare of all people of the world.

Goals of the Doctoral Course in Health Sciences

1. Education Goals

Our educational goals for the doctoral course in health sciences are to foster educators with broad knowledge of the health sciences and also detailed understanding of a specialized area. They shall be capable of maintaining excellent research standards and know how to support others efficiently through empathetic understanding of individuals’ problems and conflicts. Graduate students emerge from the program as superior specialists, ready for independent research activities, providing high quality care, instructing individuals, and offering improved management. Especially, we expect these specialists to regenerate communities through their investigations and to find solutions for the low birth rate and the high proportion of elderly people in Akita, the Tohoku region, and in all of Japan and even in other parts of the world.

2. Research Goals

The Graduate School of Health Sciences undertakes creative research, contributing to the establishment of a scientific base and to the development of health sciences, especially in nursing science and rehabilitation science.
