A Greeting from the Professor

We are doing research on Hospital Information Systems (HIS), which are very important for hospital work. For example, we study the user interfaces of HIS, safety management systems, the interoperability of HIS, and telemedicine systems.

In particular, we are conducting advanced research by the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in the medical field. In 2004, we developed a system using RFID with HIS, providing increased patient safety with regard to injections. This system was put to practical use for the first time in Japan (u-Japan Best Practice Award, 2007 – Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan, Grand Prize Winner).

We are now continuing research on a next-generation-type system using active tags and sensors.
